searching for a way to show you how i feel
i spot an opportunity, i step forward
you told me i stepped too far
acting without heed to privilege and power
paint me with the same brush as so many before
disregard how i feel and the pedestal you say i'm on
a glance into your core shows insecurities
from an era long since forgotten
is it really worth recovering? are those memories worth recovering?
maybe on your own time
you offer redress, you say that i did nothing wrong
but then why is my chest still tight and why are my steps still so heavy?

the hollow voices resonate
sending trains of thought racing through my head
steel wheel screech on rusted rails
cars fall into crashing waves
...and im screaming out under the surface of a tranquil sea
the cold shoulders and brush offs
the hospital beds and endless oceans
the last sip and the breaking point
the hollow echo of footsteps
the soundtrack to a grim farewell
a haunting choral indication that this has gone too far
it all turns to dust, faces to shadows ,voices to echoes
shapes turn to darkness, memories fade
i'm left alone, asking myself who i am
pull up the anchor
the dead weight holding you down
staring off the bow, i get restless
the open ocean beckons
it's calling out for me
vacillator, turncoat
deceiver, thief
the open ocean beckons
another cold grey chance
offering a hand up
but i slip through the cracks
writhe and wallow in self-pity
scream your lungs out until your heartstrings come with them
breathe and fill your aching chest
drink to forget and to heal your open wounds
do you remember when you first thought about the magnitude of it all?
the image burned in your memory, revisited time and time again
but as the days pass and it slips slowly into irrelevance
the realization dawns, you can't lose what you never had

"It is not just music for most of us. A recollection of
hope and broken dreams that can leave you filled with anger, grief, joy, frustration and love. It flows from our heart, through our bleeding lungs, to reach you deep inside, to make you feel like we feel... Alive."
